Contains music to the Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II games as re-released for the PlayStation.

This CD is missing some FF2 music that was on the All Sounds of FF1 and 2 CD, notably the airship music, shop music and dungeon music. This album also doesn't have the remixes "Welcome to F.F. World" and "Farewell! F.F. World." However, because these *are* PS games, the music has been revamped and sound *much* better than in the original All Sounds of FF1 and 2. I recommend getting this album even if you have the original one.

Squaresoft version: Comes in a regular-sized jewel case with a double-sided CD tray that flips up to hold both discs. The copy I have in my possession is supposed to be a first pressing -- there's some text on the obi that says it's a special first pressing (thanks to CrashWire for pointing this out) -- and I haven't seen subsequent pressings yet. The CDs in this apparent first pressing have the familiar illustrations by Yoshitaka Amano printed on them; these drawings graced the original game boxes and are also on the covers of the PS releases. The liner notes have just the tracklist in Japanese (kana) and a CGI picture of Bahamut.

Square Enix version: Comes in a regular-sized jewel case with a double-sided CD tray that flips up to hold both discs. The copy I used to own also had the same Amano artwork on the front of the CDs. The obi, like the obi in the SS version, also made the same mention of a "special picture label" that I assume referred to that CD artwork. Barring any corrections or slight text changes that might have been made in the liner notes that I didn't catch, the content and style of the liner notes and the music are the same as the original SS version. The only real differences are the new catalog number, and the removal of all Squaresoft/DigiCube information and the addition of Square Enix info.

Interesting note: When this CD was first released, DigiCube was holding a promotion in which you would receive a "special gift" if you bought any one of 15 specified FF CD titles during a certain time period. The eligible titles were the FF7 OST, FF8 OST, FF9 OST, FF10 OST, FF11 OST, FF7 Reunion Tracks, FF9 OST Plus, FITHOS LUSEC, FF8 Piano, FF9 Piano, FF10 Piano, Potion, Potion 2, 20020220 concert, and this newly released FF1&2 original soundtrack. Your prize for buying was either a catalog of DigiCube FF CDs or a clear file printed with pictures of the eligible soundtracks (yes, wonderful gifts, I know).

I don't know how exactly this was handled with bulk sellers like CD Japan, but when I bought my FF1&2 soundtrack from CD Japan, I received the DigiCube catalog.

Furthermore, if you returned the survey postcard that came with the catalog or clear file, you would be entered in a drawing to win a poster signed by Nobuo Uematsu. Boy...don't things like this really make you wish you were in Japan?...
